Annapolis...

"For God is my witness, how greatly I long for you all with the affection of Jesus Christ. And this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in knowledge and all discernment..." -Phillipians 1:8-9

A beautiful illustration from C.S. Lewis:

"'But please, please-won't you-can't you give me something that will cure Mother?' Up till then he had been looking at the Lion's great feet and the huge claws on them; now, in his despair, he looked up at its face. What he saw surprised him as much as anything in his whole life. For the tawny face was bent down near his own and (wonder of wonders) great shining tears stood in the Lion's eyes. They were such big, bright tears compared with Digory's own that for a moment he felt as if the Lion must really be sorrier about his Mother than he was himself." - From the Magician's Nephew

Dave and Gideon; Fellow Soldiers

Two of my good brothers here at WTS; Dave from Manhattan and Gideon from Singapore. These are the men I labor with in Greek, and are always an encouragement.

Words I need to hear:
"Beware of anything that competes with loyalty to jesus Christ... The greatest competitor of devotion to Jesus is service for Him....The one aim of the call of God is the satisfaction of God, not a call to do something for Him." - Oswald Chambers

More words for my heart:
"But all their works they do to be seen by men. They make their phylacteries broad and enlarge the borders of their garments. They love the best places at feasts, the best seats in the sunagogues, greetings in the maketplaces, and to be called by men, 'Rabbi, Rabbi.' But you, do not be called 'Rabbi'; for One is your Teacher, the Christ, and you are all brethren. Do not call anyone on earth your father; for One is your Father, He who is in heaven. And do not be called teachers; for One is your Teacher, the Christ. But he who is greatest among you shall be your servant. And whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted." - Jesus, in Matthew 23

Westminster Seminary

Arrived at last at Westminster Seminary: The work has begun at full spead. Greek is the first hurdle. What a joy to be here though!

"God, deliver us from the professionalizers! Deliver us from the 'low, managing, contriving, maneuvering temper of mind among us.' God, give us tears for our sins. Forgive us for being so shallow in prayer, so thin in our grasp of holy verities, so content amid perishing neighbors, so empty of passion and earnestness in all our conversation. Restore to us the childlike joy of our salvation. Frighten us with the awesome holiness and power of Him who can cast both soul and body into hell (Matt 10:28). Cause us to hold to the cross with fear and trembling as our hope-filled and offensive tree of life. Grant us nothing, absolutely nothing, the way the world views it. May Christ be all in all (Col. 3:11)." (J. Piper, Brothers we are not Professionals, Broadman & Holman Publishers, 4).

"For I decided to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified" 1 Cor 2:2
